A Study in Arctic Horizons

This weeks photo challenge is New Horizon. I know the main image facing off to the horizon is a little cliche, but it is cliche for a reason and I still like it. With the limited light at this time of year some of the better shots are from some time ago.

As a teacher I liked the thought that kids are the metaphorical new horizen.

At this time of year this is as high as the sun gets. It is my understanding that at the arctic circle (at sea level) the sun is not fully visible on the horizon for at least 48 hours about the time of the winter solstice. I live about ten miles north of that in latitude and 100-200 feet above in elevation. We also have some mountains in that direction. For more on this see hours of dark.

I had this one in my last blog reflections. It is just as cliche as the cover picture but I really like it and I think it goes with this topic too.
